In 1844 she published two volumes of her work Poems, as well as two essays in The Athenaeum. She was a candidate for poet laureate alongside Tennyson in 1850 and was considered one of Britain’s best-loved and prolific poets. Elizabeth Barrett Browning married Robert Browning in September of 1846.
Robert Browning was an English poet and playwright born in Camberwell, London in 1812. He was an intelligent child who was fluent in five languages by the age of fourteen. He was also passionate about poetry and was a talented musician, composing arrangements of several songs as well as writing poetry.
Robert Browning - Biography and Works Robert Browning one of the major poets of the Victorian Age was born in a rich family in London. He chose poetry as his vocation; but his early poems attracted little attention. In 1846 he married the poet Elizabeth Barrett and went to live with her in Italy, where he wrote most of his great poems.
Robert Browning sets the tone of “My Last Duchess,” by using three significant poetic techniques, one of which is imagery. Browning uses the Duke’s monologue to sketch out images in the reader’s mind of the Duchess herself, and the sinister personality of the Duke.
